Social media has become one of the dominant forces in Internet marketing, and therefore has formed its own set of rules and best practices. These rules and best practices should always be strongly considered, if you want to stay in the good graces of the social networks through which your ads will be published. This is why we’ve done some research, and come up with a short list of social media marketing (SMM) best practices.  These tips will help you keep your finger on the pulse of perfect smm. They include:

  • Don’t just start with a plan, but start with a complete roadmap. This should include tactics, strategies, implementation, budget and every other relevant consideration. It’ll be easier down the road if you have a complete roadmap of actions to implement, rather than going piecemeal.
  • Be transparent with who you are and what you want. You always want to be as clear as possible with your customers as to who you are, who’s behind your business, and what you expect from them. Customer trust is fragile, so be as up front as possible.
  • Know that the message isn’t always yours. One of the beauties of social media is how easy it is for people to share links, content and so on. Once a user shares your content with others however, they take a roll in presenting the message, which may not always be to one’s liking. This is  an inevitability of social media though, so one might as well accept it.
  • Encourage participation. Fans love to share their thoughts, ideas and creations with the people and businesses they’re fans of. Capitalize on this by offering contests or deals to fans who do things like write a witty caption to a picture, or create a neat piece of art based on your product.
